Starting the Tale of Rowland Oakes
To begin this rescue mission, you must travel to the Transfiguration Courtyard located within The Astronomy Wing of Hogwarts castle. Talk to Adelaide Oakes, who stands near the large central fountain worrying about her uncle's long absence. She will officially request your help and provide the initial coordinates to begin searching for his whereabouts.
Your first objective points directly toward a small campsite located in the northern region of the map. Upon arriving at the site, you will need to defeat a small group of Ranrok's loyalist goblins guarding the area. Once the camp is entirely cleared, search the nearby wooden crates to find Rowland Oakes' handwritten journal and his hand-drawn map.
Following the Camp Map Trails
The map you recover acts as a visual riddle, showcasing landmarks instead of using traditional waypoint markers on your user interface. It points southwest from the campsite along a rocky riverbed guarded by various magical creatures. Following this path naturally will lead you toward a heavily fortified goblin outpost nestled deep inside the mountain pass.
If you closely analyze the map drawings, you will notice a prominent ruined castle structure situated at the end of the trail. This destination is officially known as the Korrow Ruins, a complex dungeon network functioning as a goblin operations base. You can utilize the nearby Floo Flame to fast travel closer if you have previously discovered this region.
Entering the Korrow Ruins Dungeon
Upon reaching the Korrow Ruins, prepare for an intense combat encounter as numerous goblin warriors guard the exterior perimeter. You can either use the Disillusionment charm to sneak past the guards or engage them directly using your offensive spell combinations. Look for a small iron gate at the rear of the outpost to gain access to the interior cavern network.
Once inside the underground dungeon, follow the linear stone pathways deeper into the facility while neutralizing the hostile forces inside. You will eventually reach a large, multi-level chamber featuring a massive metal boiler door operated by mechanical steam valves. Search the lower scaffolding rows in this room to discover Rowland Oakes locked inside a small enchanted cell.
Securing the Wand and Completing the Quest
Before you can open the cell door, you must recover Rowland's confiscated magical wand from the goblin commanders upstairs. Follow the stairs to the upper levels of the chamber and interact with the primary steam valve mechanism to power up the heavy boiler door. Go inside the newly opened storage vault to retrieve the custom wand sitting on a table.
Return to the containment area and hand the wand back to Rowland through the heavy cell bars so he can safely break his own imprisonment charms. Speak with him one last time inside the dungeon to hear his gratitude and finalize the narrative details.
